Vehicle Inspection Report Overview

Vehicle Inspection Report is an Omnitracs compliance application that allows you to manage both vehicle and trailer defect reports. A VIR follows the vehicle, not the driver, so when a driver logs into the mobile unit, the latest defect reports submitted from that vehicle displays, even if that defect report was created by a different driver. Be sure to process open defect reports when they are received from the vehicle to ensure your drivers are on the road and in compliance.

If a defect report has no defect, there's nothing to do, but if there are defects, you company's procedures define how you address them. When you open a defect report a progress bar lets you track the defect report through the following states.

  • VIR Received - The driver submitted a defect report. If there are no defects, no additional action is needed. If there were defects, you should begin the process of correcting them now.
  • Defects Corrected - The defects were corrected and you can return the defect report to the driver to verify.
  • Driver Approval - The driver acknowledged that the fix was completed and the defect is no longer present.

If you are new to VIR, review these documents and videos.

VIR is optimized for use with Chrome and Firefox, but you can use Internet Explorer 10 or later. The VIR application adapts to your monitor's resolution.
