Alert Troubleshooting for Drivers

When you encounter diagnostic, sensor, and malfunction alerts, you may be asked to troubleshoot the problem.

Alert Type Diagnostics Suggested Action
Power

Diagnostic

Occurs if the unit does not power up within a one minute of the vehicle powering up.

Can also occur if the unit has sudden power loss while the vehicle is in motion.

Malfunction

Occurs if the unit loses power for 30 minutes of in-motion time or or more. (15 miles or more of unaccounted driving time)

Diagnostic

  • Wait for unit to power up. (1 minute)
  • Ensure unit is securely connected at the vehicle connection point.

Malfunction

  • Keep paper log until logged out from the vehicle or end of DOT/MOT day, whichever comes first.

  • Follow recommended mounting procedures.
Data Transfer

Diagnostic

This can occur if the unit is lacking communication to the server. This can occur if the unit fails to generate an eRODS file during the unit’s schedule automatic testing.

Malfunction

This can occur if the unit is lacking communication to the server. This can occur if the unit fails to generate an eRODS file three times in a row after it failed its first automatic testing.

Diagnostic

  • Do a manual eRODS Test.
    Check the unit's communication.
  • Request Out-of-Sync command. Keep in mind that it will log out the driver.

  • If problem persists, contact your administrator or call support.
Unidentified Driving Time

Diagnostic

This can occur if there are more than 30 minutes of unidentified driving time recorded for the current vehicle within the current log day or during any of the previous 7 days.

Diagnostic

  • Log into device.
  • Address any unidentified driving segments.
Engine Synchronization

Diagnostic

The unit did not receive engine power status, vehicle motion status, miles driven within a specified time.

Malfunction

This can occur when the unit is incorrectly connected to the ECM. This unit could not retrieve an aggregated 30 minutes of engine power status, vehicle motion status, miles driven, or engine hours within a specified time.

Diagnostic

  • Ensure unit is correctly connected to tractor’s ECM.
  • Ensure that correct cable is used for vehicle type.

Malfunction

Malfunction

  • Keep paper log until logged out from the vehicle or end of DOT/MOT day, whichever comes first.
  • Log out of the unit.
  • Look into system for CPU/Memory and run Diagnostics
  • Call support for NVRAM reset.
Required Missing Data Elements Diagnostic

Diagnostic

Occurs if the unit is unable to retrieve correct data from the ECM. If there is engine sync diagnostic event or position malfunction event, there is possibility of multiple missing data diagnostic events. Reasons: missing engine hours, odometer, latitude, longitude.

Diagnostic

  • Ensure all appropriate driver and HOS information is entered into the system.
  • Ensure unit is retrieving information from the ECM.
  • Check the unit's communication.
  • Try TIU reset on IVG.
