Rules for Creating Macros

Rules for creating macros.

Before creating macros, it is helpful to put the layout down on paper first. Keep the following rules in mind:
  • A line, which can contain text, one or more fields, or a combination of both, can have no more than 38 characters.
  • A macro can contain no more than 100 fields and no more than 50 lines.
  • You can use the following characters in your text:
    • A-Z
    • 0-9
    • Spaces
    • The following special character: ! @ # $ % & * ( ) - / = + ; : ' . " , . < > ?
  • You can select field types such as date, time, or phone number, and make fields either optional or mandatory.
Note: Macro definitions are stored at the NOC and sent to all vehicles. You incur a charge each time you create, delete, or modify a macro. However, the cost of transmitting a macro is generally less than the cost of transmitting freeform text.
