Renaming a Vehicle

When you rename a vehicle (change its vehicle ID), the QTRACS application converts all of the message and position history to the new ID. If you change the UA, then this history is not affected.

You must have permission to set up vehicles to rename a vehicle. You must also be a member of at least one coverage group, or have permission to view data for all assets.

The information below your name on the right tells you which assets you are viewing: all (unrestricted user), authorized (restricted user), or filtered by a group selection. If you are a member of more than one global group, click the linked text to change the selected groups.

  1. Click the Vehicles tab.
    The Vehicle Directory opens.
  2. To rename a vehicle, locate it in the list on the left and click to select it.
    The map on the right zooms to its most recent position, and its details open below the map.
  3. To change the vehicle ID or UA, click the change ID or change UA link and type the new ID or UA.
    If you change the ID, all message and position history is converted to the new ID. Changing the UA does not affect history.
  4. Click save next to the field.
