RDC/XRS Customers

This site will help you transition from AOBRD to ELD on the RDC/XRS platforms. We recommend that you download and print the checklist on the right and use it to follow along in the steps of the process. How long it takes to roll out ELD is based on the size of your fleet and how quickly you can train your teams. The longest part of the process is driver training. The following activities will help you transition from AOBRD to ELD in a logical format.

Task Time Considerations
ELD Changes Several Days Depending on the size of your company, this task can be done fairly quickly if you have all the pieces in place. Things to consider are:
  1. What version of mobile software are my devices on?
  2. How many staff members do I need to train?
  3. How many drivers will need to be trained and how will you train them?
These activities tie up your staff and take your drivers off the road for a few hours at a time. You will need to take a few days to start planning around these items. Additionally, ELD rules require more data to be entered in the Hours of Services application. If you don't already have CDL and VIN numbers associated with drivers and vehicles, this data entry will take some time.
Step 1: Software Update ELD rules require new processes to be put in place regarding BOT, Yard Move, Personal Conveyance and more. Omnitracs has several assets you can use to train your staff, but you will need to have them take time to watch the training. Ideally, you’d train all of your drives at the same time on day 1 of their week, but if your drivers rarely come in to the office, this process could take months. Don’t skip this training! If done correctly, it greatly reduces back office log edits and calls from drivers about new popups or problems.
Step 2: Fleet Admin Training There are several features that are new to ELDs that must be discussed. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the changes and how they affect your company.
Step 3: Driver Training Omnitracs RDC/XRS includes a number of reports that support the ELD Mandate, as well as ELD-related information in other reports. Familiarize yourself with their purpose and function and how you will incorporate them in your day to day workflow.
Step 4: Enable ELD 2-3 hours per admin A company’s default host mode affects the way many features function throughout the Omnitracs RDC/XRS product suite. For instance, certain fields are only available when the company’s default host mode is ELD Mode; other fields are visible to AOBRD Mode companies but not to ELD or Mixed Mode companies. The settings described in this section are available or hidden based on the company’s default host mode.
ELD Best Practices Several days to several weeks The most important part of this roll out is ensuring your drivers are thoroughly trained and can demonstrate that they are able to follow your new procedures correctly before you enable ELD on their vehicles. Though the ELD Mandate doesn’t change existing rules, it does require more stringent enforcement of those rules.
